Terms of Service

1. Who we are

Tanuki Sensei ("the Service") is a Japanese learning app operated by NG Development Studio ("we", "us"). Contact: support@tanukisensei.app.

2. The Service

Tanuki Sensei teaches Japanese through structured chapters, exercises, spaced-repetition review, and mock exams. The Service is available in a web browser and as installable apps. Some content is free; the rest requires an active subscription (§5).

3. Accounts

• You may try the free content as a guest without an account. An account (email + password) is required to subscribe and to keep your progress across devices.
• You are responsible for keeping your credentials safe and for activity under your account.
• You must be at least 13 years old, or have a parent or guardian's consent.
• One account is for one person. Don't share accounts or resell access.

4. Free content

The Fundamentals chapters are free to play, online or offline, with or without a subscription. We may change what is included in the free tier for new users, but we don't take away access you already rely on mid-subscription.

5. Subscriptions

• Access to all non-free content is provided by a subscription: US $3 per month or US $30 per year (prices may change for future purchases, never retroactively for a period you already paid).
• Payments are processed by Lemon Squeezy as merchant of record; their terms apply to the payment transaction. We never see or store your card details.
• There is no trial period — the free chapters are the demonstration.
• You can cancel at any time. Cancelling stops future renewals; your access continues until the end of the period you already paid for, then paid content locks.
• We do not offer refunds, except where a refund is required by applicable law or by the payment processor's own policies.
• If a renewal payment fails, paid content locks when the paid period ends. Your progress is not deleted (§6).

6. Your progress and lapsed subscriptions

When a subscription ends — by cancellation or failed renewal — nothing you did is deleted. Your progress, notebook, streaks, and review history remain, the free chapters stay playable, review of your own past mistakes keeps working, and resubscribing restores full access immediately. Account data is retained for 3 years after your last payment (see the Privacy Policy), after which it may be permanently removed.

7. Acceptable use

Don't attempt to copy, extract, redistribute, or resell the Service's content; don't probe, overload, or disrupt the Service; don't use the Service to violate any law. We may suspend accounts that do.

8. Intellectual property

All content in the Service — lessons, exercises, audio, artwork, software — belongs to NG Development Studio or its licensors. Your subscription grants a personal, non-transferable right to use it for learning, not ownership of it.

9. Availability & changes

We aim to keep the Service available and improving, but we don't guarantee uninterrupted availability. We may update content and features. If we ever discontinue the Service entirely, we will give reasonable notice.

10. Disclaimers & liability

The Service is provided "as is". To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential damages, and our total liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

11. Termination

You can delete your account at any time from the account page (this is also where data export lives — see the Privacy Policy). We may terminate accounts that materially breach these terms.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Disputes go to the competent courts there, unless mandatory consumer law gives you a different venue.

13. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms; material changes will be announced in the Service or by email with reasonable notice. Continued use after the notice period means acceptance.
